    Life... is... good....
    Dear journal

So far life has been good for me this year and last. Still have a job, working hard a the momment and putting in like 70 hour weeks... but that should end soon enough.

Have tickets to go to cats this wednesday... a winterhawks game next monday... and the lion king in june. I'm sure that I will get more tickets as time passes.

Have been thinking about going to AC but have no idea who I know might be going... that and I would need to find a room to share with people and then see how things go from there. With all the overtime I'm doing now I should have the money for a plane ticket this time.

    Be well everyone.

    Winterale Brewfest
Yesterday I went to the really wonderful winterale brewfest. That and I posted some odd notes to my facebook last night while I was drunk through twitter. So I thought that I would say something about the brewfest.

I went with Koinu yesterday just to try out some of the beers and they were very good. I really like the stouts and porters for beer and the winderale fest was mostly porters and stouts. As well as some barly wines. Koinu went for many of the barly wines so ended up a little more plastered then I did.

The tents were really packed from end to end, and I can see gettingthere a little earlier next time. (There was a 40 minute wait to get inat 7pm) So showing up there about 5pm probable might work better.

The next brewfest I am planning is the end of July microbrewfest. This year I want to see if I can get even more people to come. Last time we had a furry gather at the fest on friday afternooon, and it was fantastic. Next time we will try to get even more people.

About people and beer though. To many people pop up with how they don't like beer, but a brewfest is just the place to go as what they offer... is the best beer they can possibliy make. So I think most people make their judgements based on drinking coors (Gag) or some other basic its just bearly beer drink and make their judgement based on that. So, this year, will have to get some people that don't like beer to come and try out really good beer. Rawr.

    Love you all

    Birthdays, and online gaming.
    Dear Journal

Been a while sense I have writen so might as well catch up.

Birthdays: Had another birthday a couple of days ago... got a very nice bottle of wine from badger and we had a good time doing a dance on 2nd Life and playing music. Mid week birthdays tend to be hard to plan a party for. I think next year it will be on a friday, so might do a real RL birthday party.

Work: Is work.... started a new project... running like mad to try and get everything done with it... but... doesn't look like there is that much on next years project page yet.... so there might be a layoff in a few months. Gah... would have to look for another job then. Did try to get on with Nvidia... was doing really well... even got an interview when they did a hiring freaze. It woudl have been interseting work with the GPU designe departement.

Eve-Online: Been messsing around with that game for a with logan and some other people there. Its rather entertaining but I have managed to lose two ships in the last two days. Not anything big... but I was really kind of enjoying those ships and such. So losing a couple of them is ugg. now I have to build up some more.

Family: Had a wonderful time over thanksgiving, ate way to much food and have just reacently lost all the pounds that I gained over that weekend eatting everything in sight. Xmas should be far less stresful as I'm just going to stay home for the holliday and munch on projects.

November writing: Decided to do that novel in a month thing... and failed for the 4th or 5th year in a row again. "":) Managed to do an outline.... and all the work for the background areas... maps... words... langagues.... people... some about the history, but never got around to actually writing the story. O.O

    Anyway...

    You all be well!

    Mine tooth!
    Dear Journal

Well I have some good news and bad news. one of my teeth has been hurting me for about three weeks now so I went in and had it checked out. Turns out that I had this huge cavity on it that wasn't there five months ago. And the Dr said that he thinks that I would have to have a root canal... 99% sure.

Crap... that sounded really really painful.

Anyway... I went in today for that work... and it turns out that they 'didn't' have to do the root canal. It was a close thing... but there was sill only hard tooth when they were done... with maybe maybe some kind of touching of the pulp. Enugh that they were able to do a clean, pack, and pulp build up or something like that. So instead of a huge bill I got a much smaller one... and my tooth is saved.

The downside.... is that there isnt' much hard part of the tooth left... so I'm goint to have to get a crown. That will cost... and for the next month I can't chew on anything with the right side of my mouth... and wil have to ahve that work done four to six weeks from now.

The pain is gone though! Really really gone.... So I'm very very happy about everything.

    Love.

    Leaving for FC
    Dear Journal.

Will be leaving for FC on the morrow mornning and getting there mid evening on thursday. For all of those that will be there.... look me up and say Hi!

Lucky for me it looks like the two driving days will actually be clear. Considering that it has done nothing but rain here for the last month that is a very good surprize.

    National Novel writing month
    Dear Journal.

This is just silly, I decided to do that national write a novel in a month thing again this year. Last year it was a failure as I got busy with other things... this year I have actually been working on it!

Only, so far I have writen like 10000 words. but all of it is things like the char history summeries... the history of the universe they are set in... and the technical knowhow that went into doing things. Along with a rather intense plotline holding the cadance of the story, marked where things are happeneing, and what dates tehy happen on. With little short descripsions on things like 'here is where he sees Aurara talking with the ships system'

Hummm... I wonder if I will actually get a chance to 'write' any part of the story at all.

    Speedo! Speedo!
    Dear Journal.

Rant about work: (skip cause I'm just pissing and moaning.)

Tom really is a real work of art. He comes in today and start pissing at me about how fixtures are not getting done in a timely mannor. So I go and look around... well... one thing I can't do a fixture of cause like... there isn't a datasheet. The other complaint he had... about a part we don't have a contract for. As in. "WE DON'T HAVE A CONTRACT FOR IT. SO IT ISN"T SOMETHING I'M GOING TO BUST MY BALLS WORKING ON." (AKA. Do this work on spec right now... so that if we do get a contract for it we already have thigns done.) Bah. Nitwit.

    Normal mode Journal:

Forgot that I had a couple of pictures taken of myself... I think that I was about 20lbs heavyer in these two pictures then I am now... but it shows people what I look like this shortish hair. Also... there are lots of people on my journal that don't know what I look like RL. Here you go!

This so reminds me of a song.

    You fit in with:
    Humanism

Your ideals mostly resemble that of a Humanist. Although you do not have a lot of faith, you are devoted to making this world better, in the short time that you have to live. Humanists do not generally believe in an afterlife, and therefore, are committed to making the world a better place for themselves and future generations.

    Tarka's needs....
To do the meme, just type "(your name) needs" (don't forget the quotation marks!) into a search engine and post the five funniest/true results.)

-- First my real RL name....

Dekker needs no introduction on campus. (I'm imfamous)

Dekker needs some 're-education' with his basic leash manners. (Whine.. but master.. its shady over there.)

Dekker needs to be more resolute. (Job burn out getting to me... I know.)

Dekker needs to someone to give his nose a good thump. (Ouch! I didn't do it! Really!)

Dekker needs nothing more then the essential stove, pots and pans and two wheels to get him from one country to the next. (*blincks* I can travel light!)

Dekker needs to turn out more books then he is currently doing to satisfy my craving. (Ah... so true... so true.)

Dekker needs to play a little something called defense and then he might be considered. (I don't like snape though)

Dekker needs a different test. (I'll say... I felt like my leash wasn't long enough.)

    ---- Now for Tarka

Tarka needs features. (I'm a featureless lump right now)

Tarka needs to be taken to task and released. (This sounds so kinky.....)

Tarka needs Voone killed. (Hummmm.... if only I know who that was!)

-- Now the LJ name I use....

Chahala needs didn't match any documents anywhere at any time. So I used my other name.

    Boardgames
    Dear Journal

Some bit of luck befell me last week when I managed to find myself an unopened, new, still in its box and such game of Twilight Imperium for under $50. I have played this game once and rather enjoyed it as it is a little like risk only about ten times more complex with hundreads of little plastic bit represending starships and other such things. So I picked it up and now have it in my hot little paws. Spent a couple of hours getting all the parts popped appart and into bags and such to keep them all seperate. Now I just need to plan out when I should have people over to play it.

It can only do like six players and I was thinking of doing a once a month get together at my home for games. Just not sure what date to use. I was thinking like the first weekend of the month as that might work. Saterday or sunday depending on what is going on.

Yesterday I went out to see Wallace and Gromit... curse of the ware rabbit with friends. That was a very good movie. Right up on part with the other shorts if you ask me. Very british.

    Love!

    Saterday Games.
    Dear Journal.

The saterday Diplomacy game was rather fun with a wonderfully bold betraryal right at the start when Italy forcefully invaded Austria right into their heartland. Leaving Austria with their forces split in the middle, The turks nipping at their southern boarder... the russians probing their eastern... and to many germans to the north. The first year was not a good year for the austrians. After that that entire area was a quagmire of battles that left the field wide open to the russians to probe at the edges without retaliation from the main players in the bulkens.

The Brits bold plan on taking over holland seemed to work and the germans... not at all true to form... never tried to invade france. Russian was playing defensive almost the entire game. The french took spain early in the game but lost normandy almost overnight to the backstabing brits. Meanwhile the french started a land war into itally that was blunted almost before it started.... while itally ended up with a far more powerful navy then britan. The medatranian was little more then a itallian lake. The Turks started to try and give them a run for their money with there own ship while the frech fleet was chased back to port. The Turkish move into the sea was short lived whtn the russians stormed out of the north and look the turkish homeland. Leaving the turks in a rather well defended area in the bulkens... but unable to really advance because of the reminates of the austians... who managed to not actually be wiped out in the game yet... and the battling russians and italians.

Meanwhile the russian move out into the north sea was starting to really worry the british as they were trying to lock the itallians into the medatrainan only to find that the russians were sialing around there waters. After a quick talking over with the their sea power on the board The brits and russians joinned forces and declared themselves the winners. With the russian army pushing into Germany from the east and their conquests in Turkey... they and the brits with there handful of gains in odd placies.. had enough supply centers together to make the game set. So [info]salemkitty and I won.

Other games played that day around diplomacy... Tran-America. I managed to win. Proto Rico... John won that with a ton more points then I had.... Mystory of the Abby. It was the fastest game I have ever seen. [info]odious managed to win before the 2nd mass. I was amazed.

All in all it worked really well... though getting everyone together on time turned out to be a disastor.

    Reposted
This is something that I don't do hardly ever.... repost something from someone elses journal... but it really hit a cord....

    From [info]flint_otter journal....

I ran across this quote form Neil Gaiman:

    I saw a lovely
analogy recently. Somebody said that writers are like otters. And
otters are really hard to train. Dolphins are easy to train. They do a
trick, you give them a fish, they do the trick again, you give them a
fish. They will keep doing that trick until the end of time. Otters, if
they do a trick and you give them a fish, the next time they'll do a
better trick or a different trick because they'd already done that one.
And writers tend to be otters. Most of us get pretty bored doing the
same trick. We've done it, so let's do something different.

As both a writer and an otter.... I like the quote.
